Battle Realms: Winter of the Wolf is the expansion pack of the real-time strategy computer game Battle Realms, developed by Liquid Entertainment and Crave Entertainment and published by Ubisoft.

Winter of the Wolf is placed in a historical fantasy setting largely inspired by martial arts movies and anime. The player controls a range of military units in order to complete objectives set in a series of campaigns. These units can be commanded to construct useful buildings or fortifications or attack enemy units or buildings. Player controlled units can be grouped together in order to coordinate movement and attacks.

The game is broken down into a series of 11 single-player campaigns and 30 multi player maps. The campaigns start off simple in nature, with the player controlling a single character. As the story unfolds, military units are encountered that ally themselves to the player. In later campaigns, the player can order the construction of buildings and units in order to complete objectives and solve puzzles.

Winter of the Wolf features a number of environmental features that were unique at the time. As the campaign progresses, winter begins to set in, changing the terrain from a tundra to a snowscape. Day and night cycles are also present, providing further variations to the campaigns. The musical score is also dynamic, changing according to events occurring in the game.

Like the previous entries in the Red Alert series, the game is set in an alternate reality from World War II, in which the Western Allies fought the Soviet Union. In Red Alert 3 the Soviet leadership, facing defeat, goes back in time to kill Albert Einstein and prevent his assistance to the allies, paving the way for Soviet domination in the present. However as an unintended consequence, a third world power, the Empire of the Rising Sun, is created and all three sides go to war. All three factions are playable, with the gameplay involving constructing a base, gathering resources and training armies to defeat other players. Each faction has a fully co-operative campaign, playable with an artificial intelligence partner or with another human player online. The game intersperses strategy missions with full motion video footage featuring an ensemble cast led by Jonathan Pryce, Tim Curry and George Takei as the leaders of the three adversaries.

The game received mostly positive reviews, with reviewers citing the co-operative and multiplayer components as strengths, along with the enhanced role of naval combat compared to other real-timestrategy games. Commonly cited weaknesses included aspects such as unit pathfinding.

In this game, money can be collected by several means. The most common is using Miner trucks to gather Ore and/or Gems and transport them to a Refinery. A player can also gain a lasting income by capturing Oil derricks (neutral buildings that are present in some maps). There also are two one-time sources of money for Allied and Soviet players, namely collecting random crates which are present in the map and selling off buildings which are controlled by the player. Allied players have a third one-time sources of money using a spy to steal an enemy's money. The money is spent on constructing and repairing buildings and units. In both cases one can start construction before having the full cost in one's reserves, as construction pauses if one runs short of money.

Make a breakthrough in another !

Game process is like “Lego” assembling. Sensations are very similar! There are some basic blocks in the first level. Every finished level opens additional blocks. Your task is to assemble machine for your piggy to finish level. The machine can rebuild many times, while design is not necessary to reach end of level. Thinking your machine is ready ? Press “Start” button and green pilot will fly or go, depends level type.

This part is for guys who love to find all secrets in every game. This is a good style in modern games to have some “Easter Eggs” for advanced gamers. “Bad Piggies” is not an exception. First bonus is available on fifth level. So, look around carefully and get additional features, hidden levels, and other bonuses. Explore every screen pixel to find all possible bonuses !

Conclusion

“Must have” game without any discussions. Simple and intuitive gameplay for adult and for child. Gradually increasing difficulty, and a lot of “brain breaker” puzzles for gaming guru, thousands ways to finish level. Puzzle constructor, race and arcade in one. Five stars soundtrack. “Rovio” have outdone themselves!
